I won’t get into it all tonight, but wanted to post something so I felt like I was back.

Porco Rosso

So, I stayed home from work yesterday with a debilitating migraine, slept in, took a long bath, and then watched Porco Rosso. I rented it last week because my daughters weren’t keen on it, even though it was a Miyazaki film.

Even I was a little tentative, given the premise and the cover. But I have to say, Miyazaki does it AGAIN!!!

The animation is just what it always is, the characters were wonderful, and it was a joy. It was different from the others in that it tended toward more adult themes, but it is still perfectly acceptable for kids too. It was very reminiscent of Casablanca – which of course is one of my all time favourites. Michael Keaton was phenomenal as the Italian Sky Ace transformed into a pig. But as the “Crimson Pig” says, “All middle aged men are pigs.”

Another THUMBS UP for Studio Ghibli!!!

So, it’s been far more than a week, but I have to say I am soooooo glad I have my music back. I bought a set of computer speaker for $49 with a subwoofer that out perform my old ones that were FULL SIZED, and cost $1,500 for the standups and yamaha sub. You gotta LOVE technology! These speakers look like CRAP, but are surround sound and are only a bit larger than hockey cards LOL!

And the MUSIC! I SOOOOO missed my tunes! I’d ripped so many CDs etc., and they were sitting on my desktop… but now it sits quietly. I’ve been listening and just enjoying.

That may be lame for a Friday night, but if I got into everything else going on I might cry LOL! SO I’ll skip it for now.

Just let it be known, that while I have decided that being single sucks on a frustration scale, it is GREAT in that I have been able to meet someone AWESOME – wherever that may go, AND I am now listening to much GREAT MUSIC!

What more could a single guy ask for?

I had a Great weekend with Maddie… Ellie was on her Step Grandfather’s island – he’s a caretaker there. She absolutely loves it, so I don’t begrudge her at all. And I think Maddie and I needed it to kinda recover some lost ground. I don’t know how much it helped, as I only had her Saturday afternoon to Sunday, but at least it was something. She REALLY is an awesome person!

I have the most BEAUTIFUL and INTERESTING kids in the world… they have so much to say, and such insightful views…

I am feeling sad though… lost relationships (which really is for the best, but still hurts tremendously,) lost friends, who I miss tremendously – MY fault though… neglectful as I am… lost kids, because they have a great life where they are, and I am secondary… lost career, because I gave up the one I love for family, and don’t take the one I have seriously enough…

I am the one to blame across the board, so I should really just suck it up. But it’s hard. I miss my friends, family, kids, career… I miss it all. But at least Ellie still loves me LOL! Even if she wasn’t here this weekend. I adore Maddie, but she has so much more in common with her mother, her stepdad, and her friends… I don’t blame her for keeping me at bay. But we still have AWESOME intellectual conversations… about physics, politics, philosophy, religion… and this is a 12 YEAR OLD… she really is outstanding!

Ellie and I seem to click on a more emotional level… and creative side. She and I can hang out, and I never worry that she is bored. She and I just have that kind of relationship. But Maddie and I relate so easily on a more analytical level. They are the two sides of me that make me such an intellectual dillitente LOL!

Ellie has such a way with words… is so empathetic… has such a mind for description and narrative, I can’t even describe it! She discusses feelings and events in a way adults can’t comprehend… until they read it in her words! But at the same time she draws with such passion! She has an eye for composition, and has since the age of 3. She has balance… detail… grasps the essence of what she is drawing… and realizes very clearly the importance of people over the importance of things.

They are both so incredibly intelligent, but in such different ways! Maddie is an analyst beyond compare. She wants to be a lawyer, but could be an astrophysicist or philosopher. Ellie is so incredibly creative, and absolutely SHOULD be a writer and artist!

I adore them both in such different ways… I may connect with Ellie easier, as well as am astounded by her amazing ability to discern real emotions in writing that she hasn’t even experienced, but Maddie is also one I can discuss wave partical theory, non-linear mathematics, and practical application for Chaos Theory with.

Maddie and I have such great conversations… but she starts way too early in the morning for my moods LOL! I connect with her sometime in Midafternoon after my coffee has kicked in. Then we have a ball!

I ADORE both my children… am SO proud of them… and LOVE every second I get with them. I wish it was more, of course, but I so appreciate the time I have with them.

So why am I sad? I don’t know.

I should have written about what a great time I had with Maddie, our incredible games of Mastermind, and the resulting discussions on code-breaking strategies… which she has a better handle on than most math majors!

But somehow, what seems important now that I am actually writing, is just that I am sad. I’ll try not to make that a habit.

I wish a great week to the spiderbots that manage to crawl my page here. I know no actual people read it, so I won’t worry too much about my meloncholy mood lol!

All I’ll say is, it amazes me how people’s memories of events completely change dependent upon what they WANT. It almost seems…. DON-LIKE… and you’ll have to talk to me privately to get THAT inside joke.

And let me tell you – it also amazes me how someone who’s COMPLETELY given you the boot – left you with no remnance, and no way back, will STILL scamble to try and keep control! A good reason to have left a year ago when I fully intended to.

Obviously I am talking about a relationship – obviously I am feeling bitter today – and obviously I should cut this short because otherwise you’ll get a 12 page RANT FROM HELL!!! LMAO!!!

So, in a nutshell, to the spambots who I’m sure are the only visitors here, and the poor soul who stumbled here googling Miyazaki, I BEG you all… if by ANY way shape or means, you become interested in someone who is OBVIOUSLY a control freak, RUN! And I mean RUN VERY FAST!!! Do NOT stop to collect $200, because it JUST AIN’T WORTH IT!!!

I’m sure at some point I will go into all the fun and games that happened there – the “Bounced cheque pool”, Stormtrooper raids, the porn company one floor up, toxic gas from potato salad, plans to rule the world from Yaletown, random comic editing, etc. Not to mention, battles with the Attorney General’s office, sexy Department of Fisheries officers, and daily driving through Skid Row at 3:30am buying newspapers alongside the friendly hookers buying milk on their way home to the kids. But for today, it’s just the fact that I got to see Marcel that was so great!

We went to the Rusty Gull, drank some beers, made a general spectacle of ourselves, called our old friend and cohort Heather in Ontario, and played with his camera, which made me very jealous lol!

It was a BEAUTIFUL day – the first good weekend in a long time in Raincouver, British Columbia. We sat on the patio, drank Stellas, annoyed our poor waitress (but tipped her accordingly LMAO!) and caught up on the years since I disappeared off the face of the planet from Squamton, the Queens Cross, and all the good ol’ days…

I really don’t have much else to say that would interest most, but it was – indeed – a great afternoon and evening. And it was great fun listening to the trials and tribulations of internet dating, travel, sisters, and former professional colleagues!

So that was the good part of my week.

Again, have a great week, and try not to get too caught up in silly carbon taxes that just make commuting a little bit more difficult for us poor working stiffs – the ones the government calls taxpayers. Aren’t I glad I got out of politics?

I know it’s happened far too many times in the last year, but I think this time is different. I know I’ve said that before, but this time, it seems to be a reality. And I’ve been having a bit of a rough time adjusting. I’ve also found it difficult to stay focused at work, so we’ll hope that I’m not persona-non-grata there anytime soon too lol!

But so be it… it appears that after a brief couch surfing experience, I am hanging with my parents, who have decided that poor ol’ Jordan really needs a good home-cooked meal, and a little space.

Robyn always said it was too easy for me to move out because my family always lets me take a breather here – but in reality, it was too easy for her to kick me out, because SHE didn’t have to move, and knew that I wouldn’t be sleeping in my car – assuming I had one LOL!

So, enough griping on my part. Not that anyone is reading anyway, but it feels good to actually say it. I appear to be single, and Robyn appears to be getting by just fine.

I do wish her the best. I miss her, obviously. But I think that given the options, it really was the best course of action. The question is, where to go from here? Homewise? Workwise? Relationshipwise? Those are all the major questions I’ll have to deal with over the next little while.

Sorry to go on, and I’ll try to keep my topics a little more interesting from here on in. My intention is to start doing updates weekly – likely on Sundays. I’ll try to have a good topic, and I’ll try to keep from being meloncholy lol!

But for now, I have returned to being the “Hobo” – and once again my motto appears to be, “Save a place on your couch for me, and a little bandwidth for my laptop.”

That’s me in a nutshell… for now.

It just seems like I’ve been so incredibly busy at work the past while that I haven’t had the time. Of course, since my last post I’ve moved back to North Van and back to Abbotsford, and been here for 2 whole months, and am on the verge of being exiled yet again – so apparently it’s been awhile lol!

I went and visited Patrick last night – and it has been FAR too long! But then, I’ve been a recluse pretty much since I moved out to Abbotsford the first time – which is like three years ago now! WOW!

I spent the evening setting up his wireless network, which SHOULD be simple, except for the Telus interface, which was obviously designed by first year web design students who’d smoked WAY too much illegal substance before starting! But we finally got it up and running…

In return, Patrick made the most INCREDIBLE greek dinner! His home-made Humous and Tzaziki were to DIE for! I love to cook, but I will never be able to cook as savoury as Pat. The fact that his roommate Gary and his girlfriend are so awesome just kinda completed the night.

We finished off sitting around a fire in the back yard, pretending we were camping, and going through all the music concerts we’d been to, and who we’d like to see, and lauding all things B.B. King. I’m still jealous that Patrick got to see him live!

Anyway, it was a great evening, and I’m looking forward to going over again soon – especially as both Pat and Gary have offered to help me do a tune-up on my new-to-me Volkswagen Passat “=^ D

What better way to start than with a rave about my latest Miyazaki film?!!!

Robyn and I spent an afternoon at an Antique show at the Tradex convention center last week. While looking through all the stalls, I came across one that had VHS tapes!!! How appropriate for an ANTIQUE SHOW hehe…

I wasn’t going to even look through them, but the very top one caught my eye…

“My Neighbour Totoro” – the movie that gave Studio Ghibli it’s logo! The all-time classic, that my daughters and I had yet to see, and had been scouring DVD stores to find!

Now, I’d have preferred the DVD, but for $2.00, how could I miss the opportunity to add it to our Miyazaki collection? Not to mention, our search had been fruitless to date.

We watched it this Friday – and I have to say, I am soooooo happy I parted with that Toonie! What a great film! I’ll still keep an eye out for the DVD, but I’m just glad I have it. The animation was incredible! (As always). And the characters were incredibly endearing!

So… our collection so far:

• Howl’s Moving Castle
• Castle in the Sky

We’ve also watched, but haven’t yet purchased:

• Kiki’s Delivery Service (Our very first Miyazaki experience)
• Spirited Away (An all-time CLASSIC!)
• Nausica’a of the Valley of the Wind
• Whisper of the Heart

Ones we have yet to see:

• The Cat Returns/The Return of the Cat (Based on the cat in Whisper of the Heart)
• The Castle of Cagliostro
• Porco Rosso (Maddie and Ellie keep vetoing this one – the front cover puts them off lol)
• Ponyo on a Cliff
• Princess Mononoke

If you get the chance to watch any of these definitely do! The artwork is phenomenal, the stories are beautiful, and every one of them is 100% appropriate for all ages. My recommendation is to start with Spirited Away or Kiki’s Delivery Service, but any of them will leave you enchanted.
